Abstract
Background: The infant mortality rate in Indonesia is still relatively high at 35 per 1000 live births, one of the main causes of infant mortality is LBW infants of 29%. Postpartum mothers who have LBW babies experience feelings of anxiety because the condition of their babies requires special care separately from their mothers. Such anxiety will adversely affect the production of breast milk and the attachment process between the baby and the mother. Actions taken to reduce the level of anxiety in postpartum mothers with LBW infants can be done by way of kangaroo care. Objective: To describe the application of the kangaroo method to reduce the level of anxiety of post partum mothers with Low Birth Weight Babies at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Gombong. Method: This scientific writing method uses a descriptive method with two respondents of post partum mothers who experience anxiety with LBW infants. Frequency of kangaroo maintenance for 3 days. Held on February 13-17, 2019 at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong using observation, demonstration and interview methods. Results: The study was conducted on post partum mothers who experience anxiety with LBW infants, kangaroo care measures performed for 3 days with 1 hour of implementation time. Anxiety score was measured using HAR-S, before the kangaroo method was treated in Mrs. W which had a score of 27 and Mrs. S had a score of 25. From both respondents in the moderate anxiety category and after treatment the kangaroo method Mrs. W had a score of 17 and Ny.S has a score of 15. The level of anxiety of the two respondents decreased in the category of mild anxiety. Recommendations: Kangaroo method treatments can be used to overcome the anxiety level of post partum mothers with LBW infants in the hospital
