Abstract
Background:Anxiety is one of the main factors that influences the course of labor and results in less smooth opening. The impact of anxiety can cause labor pain, uterine contractions and poor cervical dilatation. This happens during the first stage of labor and it is a kind of psychological disorder. More than 50% of mothers get anxiety disorders during labor process, i.e. primigravida mothers experience moderate anxiety (65.6%) and multigravida mothers having mild anxiety (81.3 %). The effort to reduce this anxiety is by applying warm compress and rose aromatherapy. Objective: To find out the application of warm compress and rose aromatherapy for reducing maternal anxiety during stage 1 of active phase. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive using a case study approach with 5 respondents of primigravida maternity mothers during the active phase with anxiety. The instrument was HARS scale. Data was obtained from interview, observation, documentation and literary study. Result:After having the application of warm compress and rose aromatherapy, the level of anxiety was decreasing. It is indicated by the scores, participant 1: from 16 became 15, participant 2: 16 became 10, participant 3: 18 became 15, participant 4: 18 became 16, and participant 5: from 16 became 11. Conclusion:The application of warm compress and rose aromatherapy can reduce maternal anxiety of primigravida during stage 1 in active phase.
