Abstract
Background : A postpartum mother needs nutrients for preventing her body from infections, constipation and for starting the process of lactation (Bahiyatun, 2009). Based on the previous case study (March 1 up to March 20, 2016) on 7 postpartum mothers who gave birth in the private midwifery clinic of Midwife Dwi Sumarni at Kajoran, Karanggayam, Kebumen, all postpartum mothers had a food refusal (diet), such as oil, butter, spicy food and fishy food (eggs and chicken). Objective : To improve the postpartum mother’s knowledge about puerperial nutrients by conducting health education using the flipchart media in private midwifery clinic of Midwife Dwi Sumarni. Method : This paper is a qualitative descriptive with case study approach. The subjects were the first day-post partum mothers, primiparous mothers and those who have a food refusal culture (diet) in private midwifery clinic of Midwife Dwi Sumarni. Result : After having health education on postpartum nutrition using a flipchart media, the knowledge of Mrs. S about postpartum nutrients was increasing. Conclusion : Innovation flipchart for postpartum nutrition whichs used as a health education media can be effective to improve the knowledge of postpartum mothers about postpartum nutrients.
