Abstract
Background: Counseling is an important activity in selecting a contraceptive. In doing counseling, medical workers require a tool to implement the counseling easily. The tool commonly used is ABPK (a tool for making decision in birth control). In 2009 the wheel criteria was created. This tool is used to help in selecting contraceptive in accordance with medical criteria clients. Due to the lack of use of the wheel criteria, the writer is interested in applying them in contraceptive counseling. Objective: To know the use of the wheel criteria in contraception counseling in order to able to identify the medical criteria of the client. And also to be able to help client determine the contraceptive in accordance with medical criteria and to convince the client to accept the side effects of contraception. Method: This scientific paper uses a case study descriptive. The sample was Mrs. A, 24 year-old mother. The study was conducted from March up to May 2016. The data collection was done by collecting primary data (a physical examination, interview, observation), and secondary data (documentation and literary study). Results: Medical criteria of Mrs. A include menarch less than18 years, parity nulliparous, and during breastfeeding post partum. The wheel criteria indicated that the contraceptive to use were mini pills and implants. After being given contraception counseling, Mrs. A chose mini pills as her contraceptive. Conclusion: Wheel criteria are useful to determine the appropriate contraceptive in accordance with medical criteria client
