Abstract
Background: Hypertension, which is better known as high blood-pressure, is an abnormal increase in blood pressure. It can also be said that hypertension is when the systolic blood pressure reaches < 140 mmHg and the diastolic blood pressure reaches < 90 mmHg. Nonpharmacological therapy is needed to overcome that problem, namely by consuming watermelon juice. Objective: To overview the effect of consuming watermelon juice in lowering blood pressure of hypertensive patients at Karang Duwur, Kemiri Sub-District. Method: This study is an analytical descriptive with a case-study approach. Data were obtained from the pre-test post-test design, interview, and observation. The participants were 3 hypertensive patients. The instruments used were informed consent, emergency nursing care format, and SOP (Standard Operational Procedure). Result: After having watermelon juice, there was a decrease in blood pressure of all participants: from 154/80 mmHg to 130/80 mmHg (participant 1), from 170/110 mmHg to 140/100 mmHg (participant 2), from 150/90 mmHg to 140/80 mmHg (participant 3). Conclusion: Watermelon juice can help hypertensive patients decrease their blood pressure.
