Abstract

Background: Tobacco smoking behavior among adolescents in the Indonesian community is one of the countries with a high smoking rate. The prevalence of smoking range aged 10 years old is 24.3%. Consuming tobacco impacts health, and smoking becomes a factor high risk happened the lung cancer. Purpose: To find out the tobacco smoking behavior in the adolescents of Karang Taruna Singosari of Ambal Sub-District. Method: This study was qualitative research with a phenomenology approach. Data collection was obtained by observations and guidelines interviews. Eight respondents were joined in this study with eligibility criteria. Each interview process needs 10-15 minutes for a respondent. Data analysis used the Stevick- Collaizi and Keen method with six steps. Result: There was eight maladaptive tobacco smoking behavior in respondents. Those were peer group, family, environmental, psychological, cigarette advertisement, and smoking tools. Behavior can impact smoking practice for the smoker. Recommendation: This study can be used as a reference when conducting smoking prevention for the adolescence age group.
