Abstract
Background : There are sometimes problems in the process of labor. According to a research, there were 30 % of births with severe pain ( Lestari, 2012). The pain can affect the condition of the mother and cause stress. Stress can lead to a weakening of uterine contractions and may cause long process of labor. Giving cold compress is one of the methods in reducing non-pharmacological pain. Based on the research conducted in two hospitals in Iran, it shows that the pain of the first stage in the active phase and of the second stage was significantly lower in the group with cold compress treatment than in the group without a cold compress. Objective : To provide normal delivery care by giving a cold compress in order to reduce pain during labor process in the first stage of the active phase and in the second stage for Mrs. F, 27 years old in private midwifery clinic of midwife Sholikhah at Puring, Kebumen. Methods : The writer uses a case study. The methods of collecting primary data were done by conducting interviews and observation. Whereas the secondary data was collected by using documents and literary study. The data was analyzed through data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. Results : The pain during the process of labor in first stage of active phase and in the second stage significantly decreased the intensity of the pain after being given a cold compress. Conclusion : The cold compress during the first stage of active phase and during the second stage can reduce labor pain. Cold compress is cold stimulation brought about by large-diameter fibers. These fibers can restrain the pain stimulus which is delivered by small diameter fibers in subtantia gelatinous so that the sensation of pain decreases. This is because the stimulus is not delivered to the brain.
