Abstract
Background: Head lice are an infection of the scalp and hair caused by Pediculus Humanus Capitis. This Pediculus is a parasite that can only live in the head by sucking blood. Personal hygiene, especially on the head and hair is a way of preventing and treating head lice infections. From a preliminary study, 40% of 20 children are experiencing head lice, 80% of children have experienced or are currently experiencing head lice. Research objective: to determine the relationship between the level of hair hygiene knowledge and the head lice incident on children aged 6-12 years at Karanggede Elementary School. Research method: the research was conducted at Karanggede Elementary School using quantitative research methods. The design of this study uses a cross sectional approach. A sample of 60 with random sampling technique using a hair hygiene knowledge questionnaire with a validity test value of 0,87 and a reliability value of 0,788. Data analysis uses the chi square formula on SPSS program. The results of the study: the level of knowledge of hair hygiene with the head lice incident in children showed that there was a significant value of p <0.00, which means a correlation. There were 19 children who experienced head lice with less knowledge with a percentage of 31.7%. There were 5 children who experienced head lice with sufficient knowledge with a percentage of 8.3%. No children who experience head lice with good knowledge. Conclusion: there is a relationship between knowledge of hair hygiene and the head lice incident in children aged 6-12 years at Karanggede Elementary School. Recommendation: The head lice incident can be reduced by increasing the knowledge and hair hygiene behavior. The researcher suggested for conducting hygiene socialization especially the head to parents and children.
