Abstract
Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a disease that attacks the respiratory tract and has symptoms of shortness of breath, coughing and weakness in the body. COPD can be caused by smoking, pollution, genetics, a history of recurrent respiratory tract infections, age, alcohol consumption, gender, and lack of physical activity. Weakness, coughing, shortness of breath are signs and symptoms of COPD. Light physical activity training is the recommended management of COPD, especially for activity intolerance problems. One form of physical activity that is believed to improve ADL is walking exercise. Objective: To describe activity intolerance nursing care for COPD patients to improve ADL with walking exercise. Method: This scientific paper uses a descriptive approach method with case studies. Data was obtained through interviews and observations with three COPD patients as subjects using walking exercise and measurements using the Barthel index Results: After providing nursing care for 3 days with the application of walking exercise once a day, the results showed an increase in ADL with an average increase of 1 score. Conclusion: Walking exercise has been proven to be effective in increasing ADL scores in COPD patients. Recommendation: COPD patients are advised to use walking exercise regularly.
