Abstract
Background: Sleep quality is important for the health of post-menopausal women. Poor sleep quality disturbs daily activities, triggers stress, and decreases organ function such as the heart, lungs and kidneys. The poor sleep quality in post-menopausal women can be addressed nonpharmacologically by applying yoga. Objective: To identify the effect of yoga application to improve sleep quality in post-menopausal women. Method: This study used a case study design. Data were obtained from interviews, observations and literature studies. The instruments were using informed consent and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire. The sleep quality is good if the score is ≤5 but it is poor if the score is ≥5. This study involved 5 post-menopausal women aged 50-55 years as participants. Yoga was given four times a month. Results: Before the implementation, 5 respondents (100%) had a poor sleep quality category and after practicing yoga for 1 month, all 5 respondents (100%) experienced an increase in their sleep quality as indicated by a decrease in the PSQI score. All post-menopausal women experienced an increase in sleep quality (100%) indicating the effectiveness of yoga. Conclusion: Yoga is effective in improving sleep quality in post-menopausal women aged 50-55 years.
