Abstract
Background : The incidence of hypertension at the age of >65 years is around 60% - 80%, >60% of the elderly experience isolated systolic hypertension, namely an increase in systolic blood pressure and a simultaneous decrease in diastolic blood pressure, mainly due to a decrease in the elasticity of the arteries and aorta. Hypertension occurs without definite symptoms so it requires routine care and control so that blood pressure can be monitored regularly to anticipate unexpected events. However, to control blood pressure using anti-hypertension drugs over a long period of time has a negative impact on the body, ablution hydrotherapy is required as a non-pharmacological therapy that can control blood pressure to remain stable. Objective : Explaining the effectiveness of ablution hydrotherapy in reducing the level of hypertension in the elderly at Posyandu Kaligondang Method: This research is a quantitative type with a quasi-experimental research design, the one group pretest-posttest. in 20 hypertensive elderly respondents at Posyandu Kaligondang. Using the Wilcoxon statistical test after the data normality test Results : The results of the Wilcoxon statistical test show a p value = 0.004 for systolic blood pressure where the p value <0.005 which means ha is accepted, meaning that ablution hydrotherapy is effective in reducing systolic blood pressure, the p value = 0.108 for diastolic blood pressure where the p value>0.108 which means ha rejected, meaning ablution hydrotherapy is not effective in reducing diastolic blood pressure. Conclusion : Ablution hydrotherapy is more effective in reducing systolic blood pressure than diastolic blood pressure. Recommendation : Researchers hope that future research can develop research by adding deep breathing relaxation interventions while waiting for the next blood pressure check.
