Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiratory tract caused by increased reactivity to various stimuli which increases, causing blockages and inflammation. Symptoms in asthma patients include difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing at night and early in the morning, and a feeling of heaviness in the chest. Respiratory Muscle Stretching Therapy is a respiratory therapy whose benefits are to increase the strength and endurance of respiratory muscles which can improve tolerance to activity, reduce dyspnea by improving breathing patterns, and increase ventilation and oxygenation. Objective: Describes nursing care for asthma patients with the application of Respiratory Muscle Stretching at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This scientific paper uses a descriptive analysis method. The author obtains data from the process of data collection, data analysis, and in drawing conclusions using a case study conducted during 3 meetings on 3 respondents. Result: After undergoing respiratory muscle stretching therapy for 3 sessions, the results showed that there was a significant difference between before and after therapy by reducing the respiratory rate by an average of 3-4x/m and increasing the oxygen frequency by an average of 2%. Recommendation: This respiratory muscle stretching therapy is easy to do independently because it does not require tools and the movements are very simple. This therapy can later be done at home when experiencing shortness of breath and to prevent the risk of severe relapse in asthma sufferers.
