Abstract

Background : Dengue fever caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito can transmit the dengue virus. Repellent is one solution that can be used. Puzzle grass (Cyperus rotundus L.) contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids. The use of teki grass tuber extract is not comfortable when used directly on the skin, so it is made in the form of a preparation to make it easier to apply to the skin. Objectives : The research aims to utilize teki grass tubers as a repellent lotion that has minimal side effects with good preparation quality. Methods : In this study, teki grass tubers were made by maceration method and aquaades as solvents. Teki grass tuber extract is standardized. After that, a lotion preparation with variations of stearic acid and TEA is made. The evaluation of the preparations carried out was organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, dispersibility test, adhesion test, viscosity, emulsion type, stability test. The preparation was tested repellent against mosquitoes. The test results did not affect the quality of the lotion preparation and analysis was carried out to affect the difference in the activity of One way Anova. Results : The extracts made have met the standardization of extracts. The lotion preparation of teki grass tuber extract meets the physical evaluation parameters of the preparation except for the pH value. The results of the repellent test showed that the extract of teki grass tubers in more than 7 preparations had a repellent effect. The variation of stearic acid and TEA did not affect the difference in repellent activity by p>0.05. Conclusuion : Teki grass tuber extract is qualified as a repellent lotion preparation with stearic acid concentration variations (TEA). Suggestion : The concentration of TEA in the preparation of aqueous extract of teki grass tuber (Cyperus rotundus L.) was less than 2% by irritation test and diffusion test.
