Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition of impaired growth in children caused by chronic malnutrition, which affects both physical and cognitive development. Parents of children with stunting often experience psychological distress, such as shame, anxiety, and stress, which can lead to situational low self-esteem. Psychoeducation is one form of intervention that can help improve parental self-esteem by providing understanding and skills to cope with the condition. Objective: Describe nursing care for situational low self-esteem through psychoeducational intervention in parents of stunted children in Gemeksekti Village, Kebumen. Method: This case study employed a descriptive approach involving three subjects from Gemeksekti Village, Kebumen. The intervention was conducted over seven sessions, each lasting 40 minutes. The instruments used included an observation sheet for assessing the ability to cope with situational low self-esteem, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE), and a checklist of signs and symptoms of situational low self-esteem. Results: The evaluation of signs and symptoms of situational low self-esteem in the three patients showed the highest reduction in Patient 3, with a 91% decrease in symptom scores. Measurements using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale indicated an improvement in self-concept of 42.5% in Patient 3, and 37.5% in both Patients 1 and 2. Knowledge levels increased by 50% in Patient 1, 40% in Patient 3, and 30% in Patient 2. Furthermore, assessments of positive affirmation skills revealed a 100% improvement in all three patients after receiving psychoeducation. Recommendation: Psychoeducation is recommended to reduce the level of situational low self-esteem among parents of stunted children.
