Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a condition where systolic blood pressure is ≥ 140 mmHg and diastolic ≥ 90 mmHg, caused by genetic factors, age, stress, and an unhealthy lifestyle. WHO estimated that in 2023, around 30% of the world’s population suffered from hypertension, and by 2025, this number is projected to reach 1.5 billion people, with a mortality rate of 9.4 million. Headaches accompanied by neck tension are commonly experienced by hypertensive patients. One non-pharmacological alternative to relieve pain is foot reflexology therapy. Objective: To describe the results of nursing care for acute pain in hypertensive patients using foot reflexology techniques. Method: This scientific paper has used a descriptive method with a case study approach. Data have been obtained through assessment, interviews, and observations of three hypertensive respondents who have been given foot reflexology massage therapy, with pain measurements carried out using the Numeric Rating Scale. Results: Assessment of three hypertensive patients revealed complaints of mild headache. The identified nursing problem was acute pain related to physiological injury agents. The intervention focused on pain management through foot reflexology therapy. After three consecutive days of morning and evening interventions, there was a decrease in pain scale from 4 to 2 and from 4 to 1, indicating the effectiveness of the intervention. Conclusion: Foot reflexology massage conducted for three consecutive days in the morning and evening is effective in reducing pain levels. Recommendation: Foot reflexology can be used as a non-pharmacological intervention in managing headaches in hypertensive patients and is recommended to be integrated into nursing care to enhance patient comfort.
