Abstract

Background : Old age is also the last cycle of a person's life. In this age phase, human mental and physical strength decreases. This makes people who are already in the elderly phase prone to various diseases, such as hypertension. There are so many factors that trigger the onset of hypertension in the elderly, such as poor lifestyle, frequent smoking, pressure from stress, even from habits that rarely get attention from many people, namely regarding sleep patterns. Changes in the sleeping patterns of the elderly are influenced by various factors such as changes in social patterns, calamities, or other conditions that cause poor sleep quality. This habit causes hormones that control the balance of blood pressure to not work properly which results in the nervous system becoming hyperactive and can cause early symptoms of hypertension in the elderly. Objective : Knowing the relationship between sleep quality and blood pressure in the elderly. Research Methods : This study used a descriptive correlational quantitative research method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample technique used was purposive sampling, namely a total of 63 respondents from Pos Bindu Kartini and Pos Bindu Seroja. Research Results : The result of this study is a significant relationship between sleep quality and blood pressure in the elderly with a ρ value of 0.00 (ρ <0.05). Recommendation : There needs to be special direction from each bindu post for the elderly to improve sleep patterns in order to get good quality sleep so that blood pressure can be normal.
