Abstract

Background: Dental caries is a major oral and dental health problem in Indonesian children. Cavities are caused by food residue on the teeth and lack of awareness about dental health. Tooth brushing education is very important to prevent oral and dental health in children. Nursing Care for Children with Knowledge Deficit: Brushing Teeth With the Application of Picture Story Books as an educational method to improve knowledge and ability to brush teeth in children. Objective: The writing of this scientific paper is to describe nursing care about the picture story book method to improve the ability to brush teeth in children Method: This study used a descriptive research method with a case study approach. The data collection process used the interview method. The application of this picture story book was carried out for 20 minutes. Tooth brushing knowledge and skills are measured by the average value before and after. Results: In the evaluation conducted for 3 days, the results of observations before and after implementing picture story books to improve knowledge and tooth brushing skills showed an increase. Knowledge from an average value of 3 to 4, the same thing happened to the ability to brush teeth from an average value of 12 to 15. Education with the method of implementing picture story books is effective in improving knowledge and tooth brushing skills in children. Recommendation: Implementing picture story books is an effective way to improve children's ability to brush their teeth, and can be included as part of tooth brushing education at school and at home.
