Abstract
Background: Families were the primary caregivers for people with mental disorders (ODGJ). This role often resulted in psychological distress, including anxiety. The anxiety experienced by families negatively affected their quality of life and their effectiveness in caring for individuals with mental disorders. Therefore, understanding this condition was crucial to support efforts aimed at improving support systems and providing appropriate interventions for families caring for people with mental disorders. Objective: This study aimed to provide an overview of anxiety nursing care by optimizing psychoeducation for families caring for people with severe mental disorders (ODGJ). Methods: This scientific paper uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. Data were obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. The case study subjects were families experiencing anxiety factors from caring for individuals with severe mental disorders (ODGJ). Psychoeducational interventions were provided in the form of education about mental disorders, home care techniques, and anxiety reduction. The intervention and evaluation consisted of eight 30-minute sessions using the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Results: Based on the assessment of the three families, anxiety was identified as the primary nursing problem. Optimizing psychoeducation can reduce anxiety in families caring for individuals with severe mental disorders (ODGJ). After general therapy and psychoeducation, anxiety levels in the three clients decreased to 16.6%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the intervention in reducing anxiety symptoms. Bottom Line: Psychoeducation was an effective intervention for reducing anxiety in families caring for people with severe mental disorders.
