Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory condition in the respiratory tract characterized by narrowing of the respiratory tract and hyperresponsiveness, accompanied by symptoms of wheezing and coughing. How to treat asthma patients with tripod position therapy and pursed lip breathing which aims to reduce shortness of breath. Objective: To describe nursing care for ineffective breathing patterns with the application of Tripod Position and Pursed Lip Breathing to reduce asthma patients who experience shortness of breath. Method: This study used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The population in this study were 3 asthma patients. The case study instrument used SOP tripod position, SOP pursed lip breathing and observation sheets before and after administration of tripod position and pursed lip breathing therapy. Results: After the respondents underwent tripod position and pursed lip breathing therapy, the three respondents experienced an increase in oxygen saturation and a decrease in respiratory rate. Recommendation: The application of tripod position and pursed lip breathing can be done for non-pharmacological treatment in asthma patients.
