Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most common chronic diseases in society and can affect various aspects of health, including sleep quality. Hypertensive patients often experience sleep disturbances due to muscle tension and unstable blood pressure. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be applied to improve sleep quality is the use of ergonomic pillows, which are designed to support the head and neck for greater comfort during sleep. Objective: This study aims to analyze nursing care for hypertensive patients experiencing sleep disturbances using ergonomic pillow therapy to improve sleep quality at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong. Method: This research employs a case study method with a nursing care approach, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The study subjects consisted of three hypertensive patients with sleep disturbances. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and sleep quality measurements using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Results: After receiving ergonomic pillow therapy for three consecutive days, all three patients showed an improvement in sleep quality. This was indicated by a reduction in complaints of difficulty sleeping, decreased neck and head pain, and an increased sense of comfort during sleep. PSQI measurements also showed an improvement in sleep quality scores in all patients. Conclusion: Ergonomic pillow therapy has been proven effective in improving sleep quality in hypertensive patients with sleep disturbances. This approach can serve as an additional intervention in nursing care to enhance patient comfort and rest quality. Recommendation: Further research is recommended to include a larger sample size and consider other factors that may influence sleep quality. Additionally, patient and family education regarding the benefits of ergonomic pillow therapy should be enhanced to facilitate its independent application at home.
