Abstract

Background: The postpartum period is a critical phase lasting 6 to 8 weeks after childbirth, during which many mothers experience fatigue due to hormonal changes, new responsibilities, and lack of support. Therefore, it is essential to explore effective self-management strategies to alleviate this fatigue. One such approach is physical exercise, specifically Pilates. Pilates is a training method aimed at strengthening core muscles, enhancing flexibility and balance, and improving psychosocial well-being, which can assist mothers in their recovery post-delivery. Objective: This study aimed to characterize postpartum mothers involved in the research, including age, parity, education, and duration of labor, and to identify the effectiveness of Pilates in reducing fatigue among postpartum mothers. Methods: A descriptive case study approach was employed to implement Pilates training for reducing postpartum fatigue. Data collection techniques included sampling, interviews, literature review, and documentation, involving three postpartum mothers as respondents. Pilates sessions were conducted over four weeks, occurring twice a week for 30 minutes each. Fatigue levels were assessed before and after the intervention using the Postpartum Fatigue Scale (PFS) questionnaire. Results: The results indicated that all respondents experienced a significant reduction in fatigue levels following the Pilates sessions. Prior to the intervention, two respondents were categorized as having moderate fatigue, while one respondent was classified as severely fatigued. After the intervention, all respondents moved to the moderate fatigue category. The average reduction in fatigue scores reached 48-59 points, as measured by the PFS questionnaire. Thus, it can be concluded that there was a notable decrease in fatigue levels among postpartum mothers. Conclusion: Pilates training is effective in reducing fatigue in postpartum mothers. This program not only aids in improving physical condition but also has the potential to enhance the mental health of mothers.
