Abstract

Background: Delayed fine motor skills in children are often caused by a lack of learning opportunities, excessive parental protection, or insufficient encouragement from the child themselves. The impact of delayed fine motor skills is that the child has low self-confidence and difficulty adapting to their environment. An intervention that can be implemented to help improve children's fine motor skills is the application of an innovative playdough made from flour. Objective: To determine the effect of applying an innovative flour-based playdough to enhance fine motor skills and creativity in preschool-aged children. Methods: This study employed a descriptive method with a case study approach. It was conducted on 3 preschool-aged children who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study. The instrument used was a questionnaire on children's fine motor skills. Data analysis involved the frequency distribution of respondent characteristics and the children's fine motor skills before and after the application of the flour-based playdough innovation. Result: After implementing the flour-based playdough innovation 6 times over 3 weeks, with 30 minutes per session, an improvement in children's fine motor skills was observed. Respondent 1 showed an increase in fine motor skills from 2.3 (Starting to Develop category) to 3.6 (Very Well Developed category), respondent 2 showed an increase from 2.2 (Starting to Develop) to 3.3 (Developed as Expected), and respondent 3 showed an increase from 2.0 (Starting to Develop) to 3.1 (Developed as Expected). Conclusion: The application of flour-based playdough innovation is effective in enhancing fine motor skills and creativity in preschool-aged children.
