Abstract
Background: ISPA is the leading cause of death, especially in low- and middleincome countries, with about 120 million annual cases and 1.4 million deaths. The number of pediatric patients with ISPA at Purbowangi General Hospital is quite high, namely 159 pediatric patients. An increase in cases of ISPA is associated with irrational use of antibiotics, which can lead to resistance, worsen the prognosis, and increase treatment costs Objectives: To find out the rational picture of the use of antibiotics in the treatment of ISPA (Acute Respiratory Tract Infection) in outpatient pediatric patients at Purbowangi Hospital for the period of July 2023 – June 2024 Methodology: This study is a type of descriptive research, which is carried out by collecting data on the medical records of pediatric patients with ISPA retrospectively. Results: Demographic data showed that 53% of patients were male and 47% female, with the majority aged 1-5 years (70%). The most common diagnoses were bronchitis (28%) and pneumonia (26%). The antibiotic therapy used is amoxicillin and cefixime, each with a usage percentage of 50%. The rationality evaluation showed that the drug was 96% accurate, while 96% was on dose and 100% at intervals. And 19% of pharyngitis patients do not get the right length of administration. Conclusion: Based on the results of research on the use of antibiotics in outpatient pediatric patients with ISPA at Purbowangi Hospital for the period of July 2023-June 2024, it can be concluded that the picture of the rationality of antibiotic use in pediatric patients with ISPA is quite rational, namely 69 (96%) including the right drug, the right dose as many as 72 (100%), 72 (100%) including the right interval, and as many as 72 cases (100%) are right for the duration of administration Recommendation: It is necessary to conduct quantitative research on pediatric patients with ISPA at Purbowangi Hospital and in different periods
