Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from insulin deficiency or resistance. The management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus primarily involves the use of oral antidiabetic drugs as the main approach. Objective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of oral anti-diabetic drug use in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at Prembun Regional General Hospital in the Inpatient Unit in 2024. Methods: The research method is observational non-experimental with a retrospective approach. The collected data will be analyzed descriptively using IBM SPSS Statistics 25. Result: The use of oral anti-diabetic drugs in Type 2 Diabetes patients at Prembun Regional General Hospital shows varying effectiveness. Metformin monotherapy proved effective in reducing blood sugar levels (OR = 0.412; p = 0.042). Glimepiride was also effective (OR = 4.485; p = 0.017), though slightly less so compared to metformin. The combination of metformin and glimepiride yielded the best and most significant results in controlling blood sugar levels (OR = 4.485; p = 0.017). Conclusion: Future research is recommended to consider evaluating the follow-up of treatment and adherence to oral anti-diabetic medication use. This will provide a more comprehensive overview and support the success of therapy in patients with diabetes mellitus. Recommendations: Further research is recommended to consider evaluation of follow-up treatment and compliance with the use of oral anti-diabetic drugs to obtain a more comprehensive picture and support the success of therapy in patients with diabetes mellitus.
