Abstract

Antibiotic use in ARI therapy requires monitoring to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines and prevent resistance. Research Objective: This study aims to determine the pattern of antibiotic prescription and the appropriateness of the type of based on treatment guidelines for pediatric ISPA patients at the Outpatient Installation of PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital. Research Method: This study used a non-experimental design with a descriptive method and a retrospective approach. The data analysed were secondary data obtained from the medical records of pediatric patients diagnosed with ARI during the period from January to September 2024, totalling 252 samples Research Results: The study results showed that the most commonly prescribed antibiotic was cefixime (46.03%) from the third-generation cephalosporin group, followed by amoxicillin (45.24%) from the penicillin group. The most common type of acute respiratory infection (ARI) was bronchitis (68.65%). Overall, the antibiotic type was 100% in accordance with the guidelines. Conclusion: The antibiotic prescribing pattern for pediatric ARI patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Sruweng Hospital is dominated by cefixime and amoxicillin, and overall the types of antibiotics are in accordance with the recommended therapy standards. Recommendation: For further research, it is recommended to focus on a more comprehensive evaluation of the rationality of antibiotic prescribing, and to conduct it at different time periods to strengthen the results and scope of the analysis.
