Abstract

Product information on drug packaging is crucial, providing clear and complete information to ensure patients understand how to use the drug correctly. The purpose of this study was to analyze the conformity of the label and packaging on Ponstad, a product containing Mefenamic Acid, produced by the PUSKESDAS Pharmaceutical Institute, in accordance with BPOM Regulation No. 22 of 2022 concerning the Implementation of 2D Barcodes in Drug and Food Supervision. The method used was descriptive, referring to the BPOM-approved checklist for Ponstad products and direct observation at the PUSKESAD Pharmaceutical Institute. The observation revealed that Ponstad products lacked drug information on their packaging and labels, including the absence of a drug class logo on the primary packaging. Meanwhile, the tertiary packaging complied with the BPOM checklist. Observations on Ponstad products indicated a lack of information on the primary, secondary, and label packaging, even though the tertiary packaging met BPOM standards. The observational findings suggest that the Indonesian pharmaceutical industry needs to continue developing pharmaceutical packaging, not only in terms of formulation, but also in terms of packaging and drug delivery systems, to ensure more comprehensive and accurate information is provided to patients.
