Abstract

Background:Diabetes mellitus is a condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels beyond the normal threshold. It is classified into two types: Type I: An autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks and destroys the pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin. It typically appears at a young age.Type II: A condition in which the body produces insufficient insulin, often due to poor lifestyle habits. Objective:To determine the relationship between light physical activity and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Banyuurip Public Health Center. Methods:This research is a quantitative study examining the relationship between light physical activity and blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. A cross-sectional approach was used. Sampling was conducted using total sampling, with 76 respondents diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Banyuurip Public Health Center. The variables examined included physical activity levels and blood glucose levels. Data were collected using secondary data and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Results:Of the 76 respondents, nearly six out of ten were aged between 51 and 60 years. A total of 44 respondents (58%) were male, and 32 respondents (42%) were female. Based on educational level, 58% were classified as elementary school graduates. Regarding physical activity levels, 59 respondents (78%) engaged in light physical activity, 13 respondents (17%) in moderate activity, and 4 respondents (5%) in vigorous activity. The study showed that 37% of the respondents had abnormal blood glucose levels, while 63% had normal levels. Conclusion:The results indicate a relationship between light physical activity and blood glucose levels, with 63% of respondents who engaged in light physical activity having normal blood glucose levels. Recommendation: It is hoped that this will increase knowledge about diabetes mellitus and become a reference for further researchers.
