Abstract

Background: Congestive heart failure is the inability of the heart to pump blood adequately, causing a lack of oxygen and nutrients for the tissues. The World Health Organization recorded a three-quarter increase in cardiovascular disease, causing 17.9 million deaths in low- and middle-income countries. A preliminary study at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital, there were 973 CHF patients in the last three months. Interviews with 10 outpatients showed that some felt bored of taking medication every day, some had difficulty maintaining a medication schedule, and some had difficulty maintaining a diet pattern. Objective: To analyze the relationship between family support and selfmanagement in congestive heart failure (CHF) patients at the Heart Poly PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Method: This research is quantitative descriptive research. The sample taken by 76 nurses was rounded up to 100 people using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. Results: Family support for congestive heart failure (CHF) patients at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital heart clinic was mostly in the good category, 88 people (88%). Most of the self-management of congestive heart failure (CHF) patients at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital heart clinic was adequate, numbering 52 people (52%). Meanwhile, the lowest was 1 person (1%) who had less self-management. Conclusion: There is a relationship between family support and self-management of congestive heart failure (CHF) patients at the PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital heart clinic. Recommendation: Nurses can pay more attention to the support system in improving self-management in CHF patients.
