Abstract

Background: Hemorrhagic stroke is one of the leading causes of death and serious disability in Indonesia and represents a significant burden on the national health financing system. Data from BPJS Kesehatan shows that this disease ranked third in terms of highest healthcare expenditures from January to August 2024 within the service area of BPJS Kesehatan Kebumen Branch, particularly in Purworejo Regency. Objective: This study aims to describe the characteristics of patients diagnosed with hemorrhagic stroke who were hospitalized using the National Health Insurance (JKN) at BPJS-affiliated hospitals in Purworejo Regency, Central Java. Methods: This research employed a retrospective descriptive method with a total sampling technique based on hemorrhagic stroke diagnoses. Results: The majority of patients were over 65 years old and predominantly male. Most had a history of hypertension, particularly stage 2 hypertension. CT scan results showed that most hemorrhagic stroke cases involved intracerebral bleeding. The most common length of hospital stay ranged from 5 to 10 days. Conclusion: Patients with hemorrhagic stroke were generally elderly, had high blood pressure, and showed intracerebral hemorrhage on CT scans. Recommendation: These findings emphasize the importance of controlling risk factors, especially hypertension among the elderly population, as part of efforts to prevent hemorrhagic stroke. The results are expected to serve as a reference for health policy formulation and the development of preventive strategies at both regional and national levels.
