Abstract

Background: Hypertension is an increase in blood pressure above the normal range, with systolic and diastolic readings exceeding 140 mmHg and 90 mmHg, respectively. Hypertension can be treated with pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. Pharmacological therapy uses medications, while non-pharmacological methods involve exercise, diet, and stress reduction. Relaxation techniques are one of the easiest stress reduction methods for patients. Finger grip relaxation techniques are another method that can lower blood pressure. The finger grip relaxation technique is performed by gripping the fingers. This method uses the fingers to stimulate the body's meridian points, aiming to influence specific organs by improving blood circulation and healthy energy flow throughout the body. Objective: In this case study, we were able to understand and apply geriatric nursing care to hypertensive clients using the innovative finger grip relaxation technique. Methods: The type of research is a case study using blood pressure observation sheets before and after finger relaxation therapy was performed on five elderly people with a contract time of 15-45 minutes for each meeting, with a frequency of two meetings during three consecutive days of research implementation on the elderly. Results: The nursing diagnosis that emerged in the five elderly clients with hypertension was discomfort. The finger grip relaxation therapy intervention provided can bring about changes in blood pressure in these elderly clients with hypertension. Recommendation: It is hoped that the results of this case study will provide knowledge and skills in using finger grip relaxation therapy to lower blood pressure independently
