Abstract

Background, Low birth weight (LBW) is a condition in infants where the birth weight is ≤ 2500 grams, caused by maternal conditions during pregnancy. A mother's level of education significantly impacts her knowledge about health. In the care of low birth weight infants (LBW), the mother’s role is crucial; she can begin care by using the kangaroo method. General objectives, Examining the care provided to mothers after childbirth who encounter difficulties in caring for low birth weight infants at the Professor Margono Soekarjo Regional General Hospital in Purwokerto. Methods, The type of research uses a descriptive methodology through a case study using a research instrument in the form of a questionnaire about the care of low birth weight infants and the kangaroo method to 5 mothers of low birth weight infants (LBWI) with a knowledge deficit, with meetings lasting 15 - 20 minutes, and a frequency of meetings of 1 time over 3 consecutive days of research implementation to the mothers of infants. The results of nursing care, The primary nursing diagnosis that emerged in the five postpartum mothers with low birth weight infants is a knowledge deficit. The implementation carried out according to the intervention, which was parent education: infant care, resulted in an improvement in the mothers' knowledge regarding the care of low birth weight infants, categorized as good. Recommendations, It is expected to serve as a reference for the development of standard operating procedures for discharge planning for low birth weight infants
