Abstract

Background : Bronchopneumonia is a disease due to inflammation caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi that cause infection / inflammation in the respiratory tract and lung tissue. One breathing technique that can be used in children with bronchopneumonia is Pursed Lip Breathing (PLB). Objective : The objective of this study was to find out the description of pursed lips breathing therapy on oxygenation status in children with bronchopneumonia at Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Regional Hospital. Methods : The research adopted a application of Pursed Lips Breathing actions in children with bronkopneumonia with a sample of 5 respondents using the variables of respiratory rate, additional breath sounds, SpO2 and using case instruments of nursing care format, SOP pursed lips breathing, observation sheets, oxymeters, and second clocks in April 2025 at Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Regional Hospital. Results : The results of the application of pursed lips breathing to the five patients showed that all respondents experienced ineffective airway clearance problems given pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions of pursed lips breathing for 10-15 minutes. Then observed before and after pursed lips breathing therapy. After the action was carried out for 3x24 hours, the results showed that the five respondents experienced a decrease in respiratory rate, ronchi breath sounds, and an increase in SpO2. Conclusion : The results of this study can be applied to patients with complaints of ineffective airway clearance to improve oxygenation status in children.
