Abstract
Background: Hypertension is a major global health problem frequently affecting the elderly and is a leading cause of mortality. In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension has reached 34.1%, yet many cases remain uncontrolled. Stress level and unhealthy dietary patterns are important contributing factors that increase the risk of hypertension among older adults. Research Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between stress level and dietary pattern with the risk of hypertension among the elderly at Posyandu Lestari, Semanding Village. Research Methods: This research employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 87 elderly individuals actively participating in Posyandu activities. Stress levels were measured using the DASS questionnaire, dietary patterns were assessed using the FFQ instrument, and blood pressure was measured using a sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: The results of this study show that most older adults experience high levels of stress, have poor dietary patterns, and are at risk of developing hypertension. Furthermore, stress levels and dietary patterns were found to have a significant relationship with hypertension risk, as indicated by p-values of 0.027 and 0.000, respectively. Conclusion: Stress levels and dietary patterns play an important role in determining the risk of hypertension among older adults. Recommendations: Future research is recommended to explore additional contributing factors such as physical activity, family support, and medication adherence, using larger samples and wider research areas.
