Abstract
Background: Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) can cause a decrease in oxygen saturation in children. The balloon blowing technique is a simple intervention that can help increase oxygen saturation. This study aims to determine the effect of the balloon blowing technique on increasing oxygen saturation in children with ARI. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-posttest control group design on 60 respondents, consisting of 30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group, selected by purposive sampling. Measurements were conducted over two days in four sessions. Analysis used the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results: The results showed a significant increase in oxygen saturation in the intervention group (p = 0.000), while the control group experienced a smaller increase (p = 0.000). The Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between the groups (p = 0.000). Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that the balloon blowing technique is effective in increasing oxygen saturation in children with acute respiratory infections (ARI). Recommendation: This technique can be implemented as a simple non-pharmacological intervention in healthcare facilities and at home.
