Abstract

Background: Chronic kidney failure is a progressive decline in renal function that persists for at least three months. Hemodialysis is a lifelong therapy for patients with chronic kidney failure, performed two to three times per week, with each session lasting approximately four to five hours. Quality of life is a subjective concept that can only be defined by the individual experiencing it. Objective: To identify the relationship between the duration of hemodialysis and the quality of life among chronic kidney failure patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This study employed a quantitative research method with a descriptive correlational design and a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 180 patients, and 125 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. The instrument used was the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form (KDQOL-SF 36) questionnaire. Results: Most respondents had undergone hemodialysis for 2–3 years, totaling 61 individuals (48.8%), and the majority had a good quality of life, totaling 71 individuals (56.8%). Statistical analysis using the Spearman rho test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the duration of hemodialysis and the quality of life among chronic kidney failure patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital.
