Abstract

Background: Uterine contraction pain is one of the common basic needs disturbances experienced by postpartum mothers. This pain results from the uterine involution process and can interfere with maternal comfort, rest, and recovery. Non-pharmacological interventions such as effleurage massage serve as a safe and effective alternative. General Objective: To analyze nursing care for postpartum mothers through the application of effleurage massage technique to reduce uterine contraction pain. Method: This study used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The instruments included nursing care formats, pain assessment sheets, standard operating procedures (SOP), and observation sheets. The intervention was carried out for three consecutive days, 2–3 times during uterine contractions, with each session lasting approximately 5 minutes. Nursing Care Results: All five patients had the main nursing problem of acute pain related to physiological injury agents. The interventions included pain management with the primary action of providing effleurage massage. The implementation was performed over three days, 2–3 times per day, ±5 minutes each session during contractions. Evaluation showed that all patients experienced a significant reduction in pain scale from moderate-to-severe (4–7) to mild (1–2). These outcomes indicate that the nursing goals—reduced pain complaints, decreased facial grimacing, and reduced anxiety—were successfully achieved. Recommendation: Effleurage massage can be applied as a non-pharmacological therapy and has been proven to enhance maternal comfort and reduce uterine contraction pain in postpartum mothers.
