Abstract

Background: Physiological stress response in patients with Diabetes Mellitus occurs due to the central nervous system that moves the hypothalamus, sympathetic nervous system, posterior and anterior pituitary glands, medulla and adrenal cortex in the body. The psychological impact on patients with Diabetes Mellitus if no intervention is carried out will cause anxiety. Deep breathing relaxation therapy and Benson relaxation therapy are relaxation techniques that can be used to reduce anxiety. Objective: To analyze mental nursing care with anxiety in Diabetes Mellitus patients by implementing deep breathing relaxation therapy and Benson relaxation therapy to reduce anxiety. Method: The type of research is descriptive with a case study approach. The number of samples is five patients. The tools in this case study are nursing care format, Benson relaxation therapy SOP, anxiety scale assessment format, and ability assessment. The case study was conducted during four meetings. Data analysis was carried out in the form of frequency tables and percentages. Nursing care results: The results of the assessment showed that the five patients had the same problem, namely anxiety. The main nursing diagnosis was anxiety. The interventions carried out were Anxiety Reduction with deep breathing relaxation therapy and Benson relaxation therapy. The results of the application of patient therapy experienced a decrease in anxiety with an average decrease of 4.6 on the DASS anxiety scale and an increase in the patient's ability to overcome anxiety by an average of 50%. Recommendation: deep breathing relaxation therapy and Benson relaxation therapy can be recommended to reduce signs and symptoms of anxiety and increase the ability to overcome anxiety.
