Abstract
Background: The global workforce demand for nurses in the health sector is increasing. The migration process is a social change where a person moves from one cultural environment to another for the purpose of completing it permanently or over a long period of time. Migration to a new environment can have negative impacts, including mental health, stress, confusion. Living in a new country with a different socio-cultural and living and working environment can trigger conditions of culture shock. Objective: The general objective of this research is to find out what factors work stress among Indonesian elderly nurses in Miyagifukushikai, Japan. Method: In this research, researchers used qualitative research. The sample in this study was 5 people. The instrument used is the Interview Guide which consists of 34 open questions. Research Results: The respondents in this study were 5 Indonesian care giver nurses with the majority age characteristics being 26 years, the majority being female with a maximum education of a D3 in nursing and the majority working for 1-2 years. The cause of work stress in Indonesian nurses' work shifts is the night shift because during the night shift there are not as many people on duty as during the morning shift but there is no less work and there is very little time to sleep. The cause of stress in the work environment for Indonesian nurses is that differences in language and culture cause stress in the work environment. Work Stress from Indonesian Nurses' Workload is due to fatigue and the work culture in Japan which is more disciplined and stricter. Job Stress from Language Differences in Indonesian Nurses causes communication gaps, especially as some regions in Japan have different regional languages or dialects, making Japanese not an easy language for Indonesian care givers. Conclusion: Indonesian care giver nurses' work stress is caused by work shift factors, work environment, workload and language differences. Recommendation: Nurses need to adapt to the factors that cause stress in order to provide maximum nursing care as an effort to improve the quality of health services.
