Abstract
Background: Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a benign enlargement of the prostate commonly experienced by elderly men, with prevalence increasing up to 90% in those aged 81–90 years. In Indonesia, 9.2 million cases were recorded in 2013. One of the complications after TURP is urinary incontinence, which can be managed with Kegel exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, improve urinary control, sexual function, and reduce dribbling. Objective: To describe nursing care for BPH patients post TURP with the application of Kegel exercises in the Kenanga Ward, Margono Soekarjo Hospital, Purwokerto. Method: This case study applied Kegel exercises to BPH patients post TURP to manage urinary incontinence, with symptoms measured using the ICIQ-SF questionnaire before and after the intervention. Respondents performed the exercises 6–8 times per day, and outcomes were evaluated again using the same questionnaire. Nursing Care Results: After Kegel exercise intervention, all respondents experienced a significant decrease in ICIQ-SF scores from mild to moderate categories, indicating improvement in urinary incontinence. Conclusion: These findings prove that Kegel exercises are effective in strengthening pelvic floor muscles, improving bladder control, and reducing the severity of incontinence in elderly patients. Recommendation: The results of this study may serve as a reference for healthcare providers, particularly nurses, regarding the importance of pelvic floor muscle training as a postoperative rehabilitation method. Kegel exercises have been shown to improve pelvic floor strength and enhance urinary control stability.
