Abstract

Background: Japan is dominated by the elderly compared to other age categories, with a declining population. This will potentially burden the country's economy. Aging is the process of tissue loss of its capacity to repair itself and keep up with its general expected capabilities. The aging process can also lead to various types of changes, such as a decline in cognitive function. With a healthy lifestyle, it is hoped that it can prevent some of the risks of disease in the elderly later. Research : To determine the relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of dementia in patients at the Gajyumaru No Sato elderly home in Japan. Research : Correlational research method with Spearman Rank analysis. Using saturated sample technique, that is, all the population is used as a sample. There is missing data, so the sample is only 70 elderly patients. Instruments using HPLP II and MMSE (Japanese version). Research : Most of the elderly lifestyle is classified as good (81.4%), and 68 patients (97.1%) have dementia. The results of the relationship between the two variables obtained a significance value of 0.036 < α (0.05), then this indicates H0 is rejected or Ha is accepted. Conclusion: There is a relationship between lifestyle and the incidence of dementia at Gajyumaru No Sato Elderly Home in Japan. The existence of this relationship is also indicated by the correlation value obtained of -0.252. But this value shows that the level of relationship between the two variables is less strong. Recommendations : It is necessary to conduct research with longer treatment and determine appropriate respondents. So that it can see the relationship of lifestyle to the incidence of dementia is stronger.
