Abstract

Background : Family is a kinship bond where individuals unite in marriage. In the elderly stage of development, individuals often enter retirement or face the death of a spouse. A common problem among the elderly is hypertension. Treatment that can be administered by family members to reduce hypertension includes warm ginger water foot soaks and slow deep breathing exercises. This therapy has been shown to reduce high blood presure. Objective : To describe family nursing care for hypertensive patients with ineffective family health management problems by providing warm ginger water foot soak therapy and slow deep breathing exercises. Method: The research method was descriptive. The study involved 3 families, with therapy implemented over 5 days and performed 3 times. Result of case studies : After performing warm ginger water foot soak therapy and slow deep breathing exercises for 30 minutes over 3 visits, clients experienced a decrease in blood pressure. Mrs. S's blood pressure decreased from 170/90 to 140/80 mmHg, Mrs. L's from 170/100 to 140/80 mmHg, and another Mrs. S's from 165/95 to 130/80 mmHg. Additionally, there was an increase in client and family knowledge about hypertension after receiving health education. The nursing problem of ineffective family health management was resolved. Conclusion : Providing warm ginger water foot soak therapy and slow deep breathing exercises can effectively reduce blood pressure.
