Abstract

Background Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by elevated blood pressure and proteinuria after 20 weeks of gestation. It remains one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. One of the suspected risk factors that plays an important role is anemia in pregnant women, particularly in the third trimester. Anemia leads to placental hypoxia, which triggers oxidative stress and endothelial dysfunction, thereby increasing the risk of preeclampsia. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the relationship between anemia and the incidence of preeclampsia among third-trimester pregnant women at Petanahan Comunity Health Center. Methods: This research employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population included all third-trimester pregnant women who underwent antenatal examinations at Petanahan Comunity Health Center in 2025, the total sampling were 120 selected by random sampling. Data were collected using the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) handbook observation sheet and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The analysis showed an Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.000, indicating a significant relationship between anemia and the incidence of preeclampsia among third-trimester pregnant women at Petanahan Comunity Health Center. Most respondents experienced mild anemia (55.6%), and the majority of them had mild preeclampsia (61.1%). Conclusion: There is a significant association between anemia and the incidence of preeclampsia among third-trimester pregnant women. Recommendations: Future researchers are advised to examine other factors that may influence preeclampsia, such as nutritional status, adherence to iron tablet consumption, and early pregnancy blood pressure, with a wider study area and a larger sample size.
