Abstract

Background: Breast cancer is a disease with the highest mortality rate in Indonesia, particularly among women of reproductive age, particularly adolescent girls. Young girls' limited knowledge regarding the signs, symptoms, causes, and prevention of breast cancer impacts their attitudes and behaviors regarding breast self-examination. Research Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between young girls' knowledge and attitudes about breast cancer and their self-examination behavior at Muhammadiyah High School in Gombong. Research Method: The method used in this study was a quantitative method with a cross sectional approach. The population were female students of Muhammadiyah Gombong High School, with a sample of 149 respondents using total sampling. The research instruments were a knowledge questionnaire (15 questions), an attitude questionnaire (10 questions), and a SADARI behavior questionnaire (25 questions). Data analysis used the Chi Square test. Conclusion: The results showed that most respondents had sufficient knowledge (48,3%), negative attitudes (53,3%), and negative behavior (60%). The correlation analysis showed a significant correlation between knowledge and SADARI behavior (p=0,000<0,05), between attitudes and SADARI behavior (p=0,000<0,05), and between knowledge and attitudes of young women about breast cancer (p=0,000<0,05). Conclusion: There is a significant and unidirectional relationship between knowledge and attitudes of young women about breast cancer and SADARI behavior at Muhammadiyah Gombong High School. Recommendation: It is hoped that further research can identify other factors that may influence SADARI knowledge, attitudes, and behavior, accompanied by health education interventions.
