Abstract

Background: Stroke is a disease caused by a blockage in a blood vessel. Symptoms experienced by non-hemorrhagic stroke sufferers vary widely depending on the severity of the blockage. In general, non-hemorrhagic stroke sufferers usually experience numbness or weakness in some limbs, difficulty speaking or understanding words, and visual disturbances. Non-pharmacological therapy given to non-hemorrhagic stroke patients with muscle weakness in part can be trained with Range of Motion (ROM). As time goes by, exercises to increase muscle strength are very diverse, such as ROM exercises combined with rubber ball grip therapy. This ball grip exercise can be done twice daily for 8 days. Objective: To know the nursing care for non-hemorrhagic stroke patients with range of motion exercises and rubber ball grip on muscle strength in the Emergency Room of PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital, Gombong Methods: This research used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The sample consisted of five non-hemorrhagic stroke patients. The case study instrument used the standard operating procedure (SOP) for handheld rubber ball therapy. Results: The results of the application carried out by the five patients, all of whom experienced physical mobility disorders and were given non-pharmacological interventions of rubber ball handheld therapy twice in the morning and evening for 3x24 hours with a therapy time of 5-10 minutes, then observed before and after therapy. After the 3x24 hour application to the five patients, results showed an increase in muscle strength values in all five patients. Recommendation: The results of this study can be applied to patients with complaints of impaired physical mobility to increase muscle strength to normal using non-pharmacological methods.
