Abstract

Background: Asthma is a chronic lung disease that can affect both children and adults. Symptoms can be mild or severe and may come and go over time. One non-pharmacological therapy that can be used to treat asthma patients is diaphragmatic breathing exercises, which aim to train the expiratory and inspiratory muscles to maximize the breathing process. Objective: Describe the results of nursing care for ineffective breathing patterns with diaphragmatic breathing exercise intervention in controlling breathing in asthma patients in the Emergency Room of Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Regional General Hospital. Methods: This research used a descriptive method with a case study approach. The sample consisted of five asthma patients. The case study instruments used standard operating procedures (SOP) for diaphragmatic breathing exercise therapy and observation sheets before and after therapy. Results: The results of the application of nursing innovation by providing diaphragmatic breathing exercises to five patients showed a decrease in respiratory values in each patient, a reduction in wheezing breath sounds and an increase in blood oxygen levels. Recommendation: The results of this study can be applied to patients with complaints of ineffective breathing patterns to reduce shortness of breath, additional wheezing breath sounds and improve breathing by non-pharmacological means
