Abstract

Background: The phenomena of FoMO and Nomophobia are increasing among adolescents due to the high use of smartphones and social media. This condition can impact mental health and daily behavior, so it is important to understand the differences in levels of FoMO and Nomophobia tendencies based on educational level. Objectives: This study aims to analyze diffferences in levels of FoMO and Nomophobia tendencies among junior high and high school adolescents at Buluspesantren. Methods: This study used a quantitative design with a comparative cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was random sampling, with a total of 214 respondents. The data analysis technique used was the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The results showed that levels of FoMO and Nomophobia in both groups were predominantly in the moderate category, but high school adolescents tended to have higher levels. The FoMO rate for junior high school adolescents was 55,5%, while high school adolescents were 55,8%, and the nomophobia tendency for junior high school adolescents was 72,3%, while high school adolescents were 73,7%. Hypothesis testing showed significant differences between junior high and high school adolescents in both variables (p<0.001). Conclusion: There are significant differences in levels of FoMO and Nomophobia tendencies between junior high and high school adolescents, with high school adolescents being at higher risk of experiencing both. Recommendation: Further research could more specifically explain the factors that influence the differences in FoMO and Nomophobia levels in middle and high school adolescents. Schools areadvised to develop clearer and more controlled policies and provide digital literacy education.
