Abstract

Background: most nurses provide inadequate services, wrong and forced work positions can cause fatigue, thereby reducing productivity, and over time can cause physical and psychological illness (stress), with lower back pain being the most common complaint. Lower back pain can be avoided if nurses perform their jobs with proper body mechanics. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between body mechanics and the incidence of low back pain in elderly nurses in Japan. Method: This research uses quantitative methods with a cross sectional research design. The research sample was 65 elderly nurses using purposive sampling and instruments using a questionnaire. Results: The results of data analysis using the chi-square test with the alternative Fisher's exact test obtained a p-value of <0.001, which means <0.05, so it can be concluded that there is a relationship between body mechanics and the incidence of low back pain in elderly nurses in Japan . Conclusion: There is a relationship between the use of mechanics and the incidence of low back pain in elderly nurses in Japan. Recommendation: It is hoped that future researchers will conduct research directly so they can observe the use of body mechanics and supervise the filling out of questionnaires to improve the quality of the data collected.
