Abstract

Background: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by hypertension after 20 weeks of gestation accompanied by proteinuria or signs of organ dysfunction, and is still the main cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Risk factors associated with preeclampsia include maternal age that is too young or advanced, first parity, and abnormal body mass index. Purpose: Was to determine the relationship between age, parity and body mass index (BMI) with preeclampsia in pregnant women at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Methods: This study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 68 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was an observation sheet. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses. The hypothesis was tested using the Chi-square test. Results: Respondents of 43 (63.2%) were aged <20 or >35 years, and 25 (36.8%) were aged 20-35 years. Nulliparous respondents were 15 (22.1%), primiparous women were 14 (20.6%), multiparous women were 17 (25%) and grandmultipara 22 (32.4%). Respondents’ BMI categories were underweight 14 (20.6%), normal 16 (23.5%), overweight 23 (33.8%) and obese 15 (22.1%). Most respondents had severe preeclampsia, namely 37 respondents (54.4%) and 31 (45.6%) had mild preeclampsia. Age, Parity, and BMI had a significant relationship with preeclampsia in pregnant women at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between age, parity and BMI with preeclampsia in pregnant women at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital (Sig. 0.000 < 0.05). Recommendations: It is necessary to add variables and increase the number of research samples.
