Abstract

Background: Pneumonia is a disease with the eighth highest mortality rate and ranks first among the causes of death due to infectious diseases. General Objective: To explain nursing care for pneumonia patients with ineffective airway clearance nursing problems in the emergency room at Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Hospital, Purwokerto. Method: This research uses a descriptive method with a case study approach. The sample consisted of 5 pneumonia patients. The case study instrument uses the SOP for Active Cycle Breathing Of Technique therapy and an observation sheet before and after giving Active Cycle Breathing Of Technique therapy. Nursing Care Results: Results of application carried out on 5 patients, all of whom experienced ineffective airway clearance nursing problems and were given pursed lip breathing therapy for 15-30 minutes first, then given Active Cycle Breathing Technique aromatherapy for 10-15 minutes, after the intervention ended 15 minutes later measurements were taken using an observation sheet. Then observed before and after therapy. After applying the therapy to 5 patients, the results showed a decrease in coughing, sputum production, wheezing and cyanosis. Recommendation: The results of this study can be applied to patients who complain of ineffective breath clearance to reduce coughing, sputum production, wheezing and cyanoisis using non-pharmacological therapy. Conclusion: The results of implementing innovative nursing actions showed that there was a reduction in additional breath sounds, sputum production, effective coughing and shortness of breath.
