Abstract

Background : Postoperative colorectal cancer patients often experience acute pain due to tissue trauma and invasive procedures such as colostomy. Inadequate pain management can delay the healing process and reduce patient comfort. In addition to pharmacological therapy, safe and easy-to-apply non-pharmacological interventions are needed, one of which is warm compress therapy. Research purposes : This study aimed to analyze nursing care for acute pain among colorectal cancer patients and to analyze the application of warm compress therapy in reducing pain intensity. Research methods : This study used a case study design involving five colorectal cancer patients with acute pain at RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and nursing care documentation. The intervention was warm compress therapy with a temperature of 30–40°C for ±15–20 minutes, three times a day for three days. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Research result : The results showed that after nursing care with warm compress therapy, pain intensity decreased in all patients. Pain levels that were initially in the moderate to severe category decreased to mild pain. Patients appeared more comfortable, showed less grimacing, and were able to rest better. Conclusion : The application of nursing care with warm compress therapy is effective in reducing acute pain in colorectal cancer patients. Recommendation : Warm compress therapy is recommended as a complementary non-pharmacological intervention in pain management for colorectal cancer patients and can be further developed in future studies with a larger number of respondents.
